By 2024 the original format of a shadowing opportunity was becoming increasingly difficult to arrange. The NIACUS Executive were keen to ensure that Trevor's name was commemorated and a different format was agreed. A new cup, titled the Trevor Henry Merit Award, would be awarded annually to a promising umpire. This award replaced the Merit Shield which had been presented since 2015.
