Umpire on his travels - Mark Hawthorne
On Thursday 24th January I am away again on my umpiring travels. I am travelling to Mumbai in India to officiate in the ICC Women's World Cup. I will be away for just under a month - and yes you are right - I do have a very understanding wife!
Before the tournament starts we have a two day workshop led by Simon Taufel and Tony Hill. I have worked with Simon twice before and I know he likes everyone to participate fully in the sessions - there will be no opportunity to sit quietly at the back of the room!
There will be twelve umpires at the tournament .I am one of the five Associate and Affiliate panel umpires appointed to the event.
There has been a lot of pre-tournament preparation and I am looking forward to the challenges posed by umpiring in India.
At the start of the workshop each umpire has to do a short presentation - I hope everyone will understand my Northern Irish accent!!
Have a look through the agenda of the workshop and let our Committee know if there is anything you would like me to do at our next NIACUS meeting.
Regards
Mark
